Potato Gratin | Traditional Farmhouse Recipe from Bregenzerwald
Potato Gratin (Potato Casserole) is a true house specialty for us. It is a simple and quick dish to prepare and is loved by everyone.
The secret to the taste of this recipe largely depends on the type of cheese used. Unfortunately, simple cheeses taste too bland. The most successful option from our range of cheeses is the Senn Alpine Cheese. You and your guests will be delighted.
In our farming family, potato gratin is often served as a main course with a colorful summer salad. It also tastes delicious as a side dish, for example, with pork medallions or natural schnitzel.
Potato Gratin (Potato Casserole) Recipe and Preparation:
- Peel the potatoes and slice them raw into thin slices. Mix the cream with the milk, then add the garlic and spices.
- Next, in a non-stick pan, alternately layer a bit of the cream/milk mixture, the sliced potatoes, and the grated Senn Alpine cheese — about 3-4 layers in total.
- Cover the dish and cook it on the stove over medium heat for about 40-50 minutes. Alternatively, it can be prepared in the oven at around 160°C for roughly the same cooking time.
