In a strictly secret mission, every detail was meticulously planned a few days before the start of shooting in mid-October. According to the producers, the Hintertux glacier was the ideal film location. Together with the Seattle-based film production company Anonymous Content, the locations were visited, the scenes fixed and the equipment discussed. “We had no idea what was going on or who was going to be in front of the camera,” says the tourism association Tux-Finkenberg. Already once it came to light where the Briton shoots his music video. “Then there was a huge crowd and countless spectators. That made it very difficult to shoot. That’s why everything was top secret here,” reveals a TVB employee.
Three days were spent shooting in the panorama bar in the Tuxer Fernerhaus, on the Sommerbergalm, in the Hohenhaus Tenne, in Mayrhofen at the train station including the Zillertalbahn and, of course, directly on the glacier. The world stars were particularly impressed by the breathtaking scenery at sunset, which was offered to them by the Frozen Wall at 3250 metres above sea level.
The slopes were also tested during a night ski shoot and provided a lot of fun for the international film team. The film ended with a lavish shoot in Hintertux, for which the street between the Hohenhaus Tenne and the Hotel Neuhintertux was transformed into a typically American Christmas landscape with countless colourful lights and film snow. Everything sparkled, thick flakes fell from the sky and Sheeran even made snow angels.
For the Hintertuxers the video shooting was a spectacle. Big cameras, spotlights, microphones and lots of helping hands on the set. The naturalness, down-to-earthness and friendly manner of Ed Sheeran and shooting colleague Zoey Deutch were well received by everyone involved.
