Beautiful circular hike with Hochkünzelspitze and Braunarlspitze in the Lechquellen Mountains
Our two-day Bregenzerwald hike begins on a wonderful autumn afternoon at the car park “Landsteg” after the tunnel, a small district of Schoppernau in the beautiful Bregenzerwald.
In two hours we reach the Biberacherhütte at 1846 m above sea level via the gravel supply path along the creek. Wonderful fauna and flora and waterfalls line the ascent.
Tip: In winter a ski tour to the Biberacher Hütte is possible without major problems.
Biberacher Hütte with ascent to Hochkünzelspitze – reservation recommended!
The hut is located on two different long-distance hiking trails: the European long-distance hiking trail E4 (alpineThe Vorarlberger Bergkäse (mountain cheese) is a regional cheese specialty from the Austrian province Vorarlberg. » More info) and the redAerobic cheese ripening means cheese ripening with oxygen. » More info variant of the Via Alpina. The Bregenzer-Wald-Rundwanderweg also runs past the hut. It is also the starting point for the Lechquellen Circuit, which continues via the Göppinger, Freiburger, Ravensburger and Stuttgarter huts.
After a short refreshment we deposit our backpacks at the hut to enjoy the sunset on the Hochkünzelspitze (2397 m) directly behind it. First we hike on meadow paths, in the upper area it gets rockier, sure-footedness and head for heights should be brought along. We are only about an hour on the way to the summit.
A breathtaking 360° panoramic view, a fine schnapserl from the summit – what more do you need to be happy…
After the rapid descent we enjoy the delicious pasta and the cool cyclist on the terrace until it gets dark. The rest of the evening we sit in a convivial circle in the rustic hut, enjoying cake and gentian schnapps, until we move into our cosy double room and sink into sweet dreams.
At dawn we are surprised by a rare spectacle directly in front of our window: the cold courtship display of two black cocks ( Birkhähne!)
After a fine breakfast with fresh braid and chocolate cake we head towards Braunarlfürggele (2145 m a.s.l.), where we are about two hours away.
The way to the Braunarlspitze in the Bregenzerwald
On the ridge of Braunarlfürggele you can decide whether to descend to Schröcken or to take the spectacular Braunarlspitze (2645 m) with you.
It is climbed in one to two hours via the Weimar Steig, which is always insured with a wire rope. Here you have to climb easily in grade I, you need sure-footedness and a head for heights.
We have a few short breaks on this day incl. Braunarlspitze for about five hours, arrived in Schröcken we treat ourselves to some cake and coffee before we take the post bus back down to the car park. A fantastic hiking weekend comes to an end, we have refuelled and are full of energy and zest for action for the coming working week!
